The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) organised a discussion forum on April 1, 2019 titled “Youth Activism for Better Governance.” The event was held in ULAB Campus A Auditorium.

The event, organised with the support of International Republican Institute, featured a presentation by New York University’s Prof. Michael Shank, which was followed by a panel discussion on youth activism.

After a welcome address by ULAB Pro-VC Prof. Shamsad Mortuza, BEI President Ambassador Humayun Kabir gave a brief speech on youth activism and introduced the speaker. Using the attitude towards climate change in the US as an example, Professor Shank, also the Communications Director for the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance, spoke animatedly about ways to change the behaviour of people when serious issues, such as climate change, are at stake. He spoke of how global solutions could be found by engaging more people in meaningful activities.

Prof. Shank, Prof. Syed Manzoorul Islam from ULAB’s School of Arts and Humanities, and Sajid Amit from ULAB’s Centre for Enterprise and Society took part in the panel discussion session which was moderated by BEI Adviser Ambassador Sohrab Hossain. The discussion was followed by an engaging question-answer session. BEI officials, guests, faculty members, admin staff, and students from different departments of ULAB attended the event.
