Interview with Michael Shank, Ph.D., Director of Engagement, Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance

Although cities account for less than 2% of the Earth’s surface, they are responsible for generating over 60% of global greenhouse emissions. Being the leading contributor to climate change, urban areas need to undergo transformative changes in energy systems, transportation, waste management, and building and construction practices to meet ambitious net zero targets.

The Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance (CNCA) was created to facilitate the collaboration between the world’s leading cities and accelerate climate action efforts. In this episode, we talk to Michael Shank, Ph.D., Director of Engagement for the CNCA, looking at ways of engaging the communities in adopting local climate initiatives. We explore actions cities can take to mitigate emissions and discuss the importance of international collaboration and knowledge exchange in achieving global goals.
